been living here 2 months
and never really thought
to walk just up the road
but matt's visit called for
adventure so the three of
us first explored the tide
flat, where sarah found a
handwrought crown exuding
eldritch energies among the
rotting pilings encrusted with
bivalves--half a billion years
on this planet, contemplating
them is a form of time travel.

then we crossed the bridge
& walked the winding road
cut through the forest leaving
trees precarious. (surrounded, i
suddenly saw them as hairs in
the scalp of Earth.) pretty soon
the pavement gave way to dirt,
narrowed to one lane of gravel.
used to be it was the poor lived
on unpaved streets, but now
lack of access is high status.
