Present: Bill Carr (meeting organizer); Micheline; Suzanna; Robert Zverina
We started with some introductions...
Micheline is founder and president of Francophones de Seattle. She
is a strong bus advocate and would like to see outreach to people of all
ages and needs.
Suzanna bicycles.
PURPOSE
General discussion about how a carfree club/movement could be organized
and what it should aim to do. The ambitious goal of previous meeting was
to determine the identity, goal(s), and name of the group during this meeting,
but that didn't happen.
DISCUSSION
The discussion over dinner ranged over many aspects of cars and their
alternatives, with a lot of attention paid to attracting people other than
bicyclists. It was a agreed that if a club is formed, it should be inclusive
and accentuate fun. Various events were discussed: Metro day trips, costume
parties on bus, carfree movie nights, sticker swaps.
To broaden outreach, it was suggested that we work to organize through community
centers such as the one on
Phinney Ridge
and ecology organizations such as
Sustainable
Ballard.
