YO (not to be confused with OY) stands for Young/Old, a
monthly potluck dinner orchestrated to foster
communication across the generations. Everyone's too
polite to ask exact ages, but the range seems to
encompass 20s-80s, with me and Sarah falling
somewhere in the middle (but getting older by the
minute). Each month, two guests are volunteered to
bring questions as jumping off points for broader
conversations ranging from mundane to esoteric.
Whatever the topic, the talk is stimulating and the
evenings always end too soon, with the stragglers
packed into the kitchen tidying up and doing dishes.
