in
addition to weeklong visit from sarah's sister rebecca
and her husband jeff,
seattle friends emily and catherine dropped by
just long enough for a
quick dip after looking at a nearby vacant
lot for sale. they alerted me to some free
beams they saw about 5 miles shy of here,
which they described as 8 foot long 4x6s. that
sounded manageable so i cruised over solo,
surprised to see they were more like 6x8x20 glulams! well, i'd come this
far so i dragged the biggest one and got it up
onto my bumper. next came the real
challenge--somehow lifting it over head and onto
the lumber rack. it took all the strength i could
muster and there was that uneasy point of no
return when i had to either rally and push it over
the top or let it drop and hope to jump clear. i
dug deep and barely got it in place--which gave me
the confidence to try another, and after that some
smaller ones, which quickly maxed my rack's weight
limit. i'd come back later for the rest. this time
with help. |
