laurie laurie what's your story?
I bumped into college comrade Laurie after last year's Solstice Parade, and though neither of us is from here originally we've both settled in Fremont, independently and unknown to each other. I hadn't heard from Dave in years, and he hadn't seen Laurie for a long time, so here we were reunited for a moment over bloody marys and some tears at the Dock, the best place to get an early morning buzz on any day of the week. The yboth seemed kinda sad and Dave kept on saying how nothing and no one had changed. From there we said goodbye to Laurie and her husband Paul, went to the PI where we continued the trend, met Monte and a new guy (whose name escapes at the time of this writing 4 months later) who reminded me eerily of Chris Cramer. Jim our personal cabbie picked us up and we made it over to Dennis's for the second 15 minutes of fame home movie party, but the rain kept us inside, which worked out ok, movies projected on the ceiling and everyone leaning on each others' propped-up knees. Klaun Klaun had its premiere but Heike and Chrystya and Deniz and Jed's video of their trip to the party via QFC stole the show--bowling in the paper towel aisle with cantaloupes is tough to beat. By the end it was dry enough to finish out the evening on the roof, harbor lights sparkling wetly, popping beertops and passing cigarettes.
