Jakub 89, Czech Republic |
Jakub (yah-koob), population 500, is a sleepy farming
village located 75 kilometers east of Prague, Czech Republic. From here it's
a 40-minute walk to historically important Kutna Hora, home to the world
famous Bone Church.
Jakub is a place to relax free from the hurly burly of 21st century commerce,
a village where bicycles outnumber cars and the only businesses are a small
grocery store, the village pub, and an 850-year-old church--all within a
100 meters.

Things To Do
There's not much to do here. That's why we like it.
However, all basic needs are provided within 100 meter radius: a small grocery
store showcasing locally produced bread, fruits, and vegetables, a traditional
hospoda featuring authentic Czech draft beer, and a unique Romanesque church
built in 1165, one of only three in Europe to remain intact through 850 years
of war, disaster, and religious reformations. A larger grocery store and
full-service restaurant are located in the adjacent village of Cirkvice,
an easy 10-minute walk. This is a great place to take a time-out during European
travels. Sleep late, luxuriate in the bath, listen to the silence, ride bikes
along
winding
country lanes. Read some literature or a travel book from our diverse
library. It's hot in the summer, but there's shade trees and a swimmable
lake within biking distance. The town of Caslav is a 30-minute bikeride away
and offers an excellent outdoor swimming pool, as well as an annual Czech
bluegrass festival. And of course, the
Bone Church is only
a 40-minute walk away. We look forward to seeing you
here.
