Too bad the earth's not flat. If it were we'd have a chance.
The sun would arch over us,  drawing the day, then at night we'd all sleep. (Most of us, anyway.)  In that case, everyone could get together and agree that once a year we'd have one hour (or one day) where everybody simply stayed in place.  No planes would fly, no cars would drive. Nuclear submarines would have to park it on the bottom of the ocean. Freight and passenger trains could pause in their progress and become objects of curiosity for passing animals. Ships could drift,  but all motors would be shut off and people would sit or stand very still listening to the silence. The only thing moving would be the earth through space and for once everyone would be able to hear it.
