Two years ago, Sarah and I happened to be in
New York City
when Seattle band
The
Intelligence was in Brooklyn opening for
The Fall.
For some idiotic reason, we managed not to go see our
friends play that date (which according to them was extraordinary).
Well, we weren't going to make the same mistake twice. Our first
day in Europe coincided with the last stop of their 5-week Euro-
pean tour: dB's in
Utrecht.
The Dutch train system is sweet! It's
so easy and cheap to travel from city to city. We made the trip
from Amsterdam with time to spare, rolled some smokes, had a
couple beers. We went backstage to see if they were there. They
weren't, but when we came out we saw them newly seated at a
table. They weren't expecting us and didn't see us approach, so
I put on a fake accent and asked if we could join them. Without
first looking up they said yes, but when Matt
finally did look up his
expression was priceless. Too bad I didn't get a picture of it. It was
just one of those times when I forget to live my own life vicarious. |
